Happy Thanksgiving!

Today we're skipping the book description because not everyone will be here this weekend and all through next week....instead here are a few quotes for Thanksgiving(=

"Thanksgiving is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the simple life...
a true folk-festival that speaks the poetry of the turn of the seasons, the beauty of seedtime and harvest, the ripe product of the year
- and the deep, deep connection of all these things with God".
~Ray Stannard Baker (David Grayson)

 "Forever on Thanksgiving Day
The heart will find the pathway home."
 ~Wilbur D. Nesbit

Description of the Book #4

Cool book designed by a lady on etsy using an old vinyl record as the cover...
Here is her store link...http://www.etsy.com/shop/usefulbooks

"A book is good company. It is full of conversation without loquacity. It comes to your longing with full instruction, but pursues you never."
Henry Ward Beecher

To start making a book you'll need a few things: waxed thread, a large needle, paper (you pick, just make sure it's a med wieght), something to crease your paper with, paper cutter/scissors, and a pencil. (and card board or wood, or whatever you plan on making your cover out of, cloth to cover the cover, glue and 2 pretty papers for the inside covers) Make sure you measure your paper b/c the cover will need to be larger.

Part one: Create several Folios
Very simply put you take four pieces of paper and fold them in half then sew them together down that middle crease to create an 8 pg folio...make as many as you want/need.

Part two: Bind the Folios together into a book without a cover
Here is a website to show you coptic stitch binding... http://cultblog2.wordpress.com/2009/03/01/20/

Definition of the Book # 3

Parts of the Book

"Books are the carriers of civilization…They are companions, teachers, magicians, bankers of the treasures of the mind.  Books are humanity in print."                         Barbara W. Tuchman

And here is another cool idea for a gift for a book lover...make a journal/sketch book for them to write in...instructions to follow tomorrow...

Description of the Book #2

"A real book is not one that we read, but one that reads us."
W. H. Auden
Christmas is coming up soon, far sooner than one might realize...
So in keeping with the love of books here is a very easy way to make a small book of your own.
Maybe you might make several and use them as ornaments by adding a ribbon, or gift them to friends(using designed paper appropriate to their interests )..have fun(=

Today I spent some time cleaning and pricing books that had just come in and in one old book from 1920 i found a Navel postcard for change of station address from 1944... I've found postcards before along with the usual bookmarks, travel ticket stubs, programs etc...but this is the oldest I've encountered yet(=

and now for a quote....

Yummy...

Ah! on Thanksgiving day....
When the care-wearied man seeks his mother once more,
And the worn matron smiles where the girl smiled before.
What moistens the lips and what brightens the eye?
What calls back the past, like the rich pumpkin pie?

~John Greenleaf Whittier

Don't forget to come visit us tomorrow for the Fall Open House from 5-7pm(=
There will be snacks and drinks and good deals....

The First Thanksgiving...

So once in every year we throng
Upon a day apart,
To praise the Lord with feast and song
In thankfulness of heart.

to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him."
